อุกกาบาตที่เป็นหินล้วน

(stony meteorite) เป็นอุกกาบาตส่วนใหญ่ (95%) ที่พบบนพื้นโลกเป็นจำนวนมากกว่า 3,000 ชิ้น มีลักษณะคล้ายหินธรรมดาแต่มีผิวชั้นนอกที่ถูกหลอมในขณะที่พุ่งผ่านชั้นบรรยากาศลงมาสู่โลก ซึ่งมีส่วนประกอบของหินปนทราย มีเหล็กและนิเกิลเพียงเล็กน้อย และยังแบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 ชนิด คือ

- Chondrites ซึ่งเป็นชนิดที่มีจำนวนมากที่สุดราว 90% มีส่วนประกอบของ Silicate ประมาณ 90% เหล็กและนิเกิล 1%

- Achondrites มีส่วนประกอบของ Olivine 9% Pyroxene 72% Plagioclase 25% เหล็กและนิเกิล 1%

- Carbonaceous Chondrites ซึ่งเป็นอุกกาบาตชนิดที่หายาก มีอินทรีย์สารและน้ำอยู่
